How It Works

The process is simple.Create an account by choosing a username and password. In a few minutes, you’ll be all set to start your online traffic school course. You can make a payment at any time or pay just before your final exam. Either way, you’ll be on the road to clearing your driving record.

Your traffic school is available online 24/7. That means you can log in and out whenever you want and from any computer that has Internet access! When you log back in, we’ll take you back to the exact place you left off. Doesn’t that sound better than spending your weekends in a classroom?

At the end of the course there will be an online final exam. Don’t worry—you can take it as many times as you need in order to pass. Once you pass the test, we’ll notify your court electronically of your course completion—no paperwork required.

It's easy. Create your individual account by choosing a username and password. We use your individual account to notify the court electronically once you complete your traffic school course. You can then choose the language of the class along with the date and time of the course.

After completing payment, your seat in the class will be reserved, and you'll be on the road to clearing your driving record! At the end of the course there will be a quick final exam, then you're done. We'll notify your court electronically of your course completion—no paperwork required. No paperwork required: we'll notify the court electronically when you complete the course.

Traffic School Course Eligibility

If you get a ticket, traffic school keeps that ticket off your driving record, so you can avoid getting a point. This keeps your insurance rates from rising—which is good for your wallet. Lastly, traffic school is a great way to learn defensive driving skills in order to become a better driver.

If you’ve just received your citation, you’ll need to wait for your courtesy notice to arrive in the mail. The notice will have the option to pay for your ticket as well as pay the court-required administrative fee that will qualify you to take traffic school. Once you’ve paid for your ticket and the administrative fee (listed on your courtesy notice), the court will issue you an Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School so you can sign up for traffic school.

If you received your citation in Santa Clara County, you must attend an approved traffic school. DriversEd.com is approved by the Santa Clara County Superior Court. Certificates of Completion issued for both our online and in-class traffic courses are accepted by the court.

Your Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School, which is issued to you by the court, will list the date by which you will need to complete traffic school. Once you’ve paid for your ticket and the court-imposed administrative fee to take traffic school, the court will issue you your Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School that qualifies you for traffic school.

Yes, but you'll need to complete the full course and pass the online final test on or before your traffic school due date. At this point, we recommend getting an extension on your due date to give yourself more time. Please contact your court for an extension because DriversEd.com cannot extend your traffic school due date. If you’re not sure when your due date is, please contact your court to verify the date.

Course Information

By law the online course is a minimum of 8 hours, but how long the course actually takes will vary depending on your individual pace. With our online traffic school, there are no time restrictions. That means you can always go at your pace and log in and out whenever you want. Think how fast time can fly if you do 20 minutes here and there!

The in-class course is 8 hours long. You can take an 8-hour session in one day or two 4-hour sessions spread over two consecutive days. And don't worry, you’ll be given breaks, including a lunch break for the 8-hour course.

There’s no time limit for taking the online traffic school course (other than your traffic school due date). The whole point of our online traffic school is to give students the flexibility to take the course on their own time. You can log in and out whenever you want and when you return, we’ll bring you right back to where you left off.

We offer online traffic school in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Depending on the location, our in-class courses are offered in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

At the end of the course, you’ll take an online final exam (the price of which is included in your course fee). After you pass, we’ll update your account and notify your court electronically that you have completed your course. They will update your driving record.

Note: The final exam for the in-class course will be administered at the end of your class.

No problem. You can retake the online final exam as many times as you need to for free.

It is very important that you arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the class start time. If you are late you will not be allowed to participate, and you will need to reschedule. If you’ve missed your scheduled in-class traffic school, you can reschedule by logging into your DriversEd.com account.

If you're finding it hard to fit an in-class course into your schedule, you might want to switch to the online course, which you can take wherever and whenever it's convenient for you.

Whether you take our online or in-class course, we’ll send your Certificate of Completion to the Santa Clara Court electronically. You don’t need to deliver anything to the court.

If you take the online course and would like a copy of your course completion for your records, you can print a copy for your records from your account. Note that the court will not accept this copy as proof of traffic school completion.

If you take the in-class course, we will give you a copy of your Certificate of Completion after the class.

We'll notify the court electronically when you complete the course, so we need you to have an online account (registration). Also, some students have difficulty finding an in-class course that works with their schedule. Having a username and password is a precaution in case you decide to switch to the online course.

You can find this information on your Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School. This information will go on your Certificate of Completion, so double check to be sure it is entered correctly. An incorrect entry may cause your certificate to be delayed, lost, or rendered invalid by your court.

If you’ve just received your citation, please wait for your courtesy notice to arrive in the mail. The notice will have the option to pay off your ticket as well as pay the court-required administrative fee that will qualify you to take traffic school. Once you have paid for your ticket and the administrative fee, the court will issue you your Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School.

Please note: You cannot register for traffic school until you have your Agreement to Attend Driver Improvement School.
