Disabled person parking spaces are designed to provide those who have visual or movement impairment with equal opportunity to access public or private facilities.

In order to make use of them, your vehicle must display a valid disabled person parking placard on the rearview mirror or the disabled person license plate. In order to qualify for a disabled person license plate or placard, you must have certain health conditions, some examples are:

• A hearing impairment;
• Inability to walk 200 hundred feet without stopping to rest;
• Inability to walk without the use of a brace, cane, crutch, prosthetic device or a wheelchair;
• Restricted by lung disease;
• Use portable oxygen;
• A cardiac condition;
• Limited in the ability to walk due to an arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic condition or complications due to pregnancy;
• A vision impairment

Beginning March 1, 2007 the Georgia Department of Revenue will assume responsibility for the issuing and renewal of disabled persons parking placards within Georgia. Placards will be available throughout the state at local county tag offices. You will need to complete a MV-9D application available on the Department of Revenue web site. Disabled persons parking placards will not be available at Department of Driver Services Customer Service Centers.
