General Information
01. How does online drivers ed work?
02. Who needs to take Florida drivers education?
All first time drivers (minimum age 14 ½) must take a Florida drivers education course in order to get a Florida learners learners permit. The Florida DHSMV calls this Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE).

Our DriversEd.com First Time Driver ADAPT online course fulfills the Florida TLSAE requirement.

No matter how old you are though, if you want to learn about driving in Florida and plan to obtain a Florida drivers license, you can take this course.
03. Does this First Time Driver ADAPT course satisfy DHSMV requirements?
04. What exactly is drivers education and drivers training?
Drivers Education is a class that teaches you the rules of the road, vehicle safety, etc., so you’re ready to pass your written learners permit test. Our Florida drivers education course (also known as Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education) is DSHMV approved and fulfills the 4-hour requirement for first time drivers.

Drivers Training is the in-car driving lessons with a licensed driving instructor. In Florida, drivers training is not mandatory.

However, it’s always a good idea to take lessons with an experienced, licensed instructor.* If you want, you can find a local driving school here.

Course Information
05. How long will it take for me to finish the course?
That depends on your individual pace. By Florida law, all TLSAE courses must be at least 4 hours. The good news is that with DriversEd.com, you can always go at your pace and log in and out at your convenience. Think how fast time can fly if you do 20 minutes here and there!
06. How do I access the 50 free practice learners permit tests?
After payment, your free practice learners permit tests will become accessible from your online DriversEd.com account.
07. When will I receive my Certificate of Completion?
Once you finish the course, the DHSMV will be notified electronically—no paperwork required. You can go to your local DHSMV office, and they’ll already know that you passed the course.
08. How many times can I take the DHSMV test online?
You can take the DHSMV learners permit test online up three times. If you do not pass the test after three attempts, you must go to a DHSMV office and take the test in person.
09. Will I need to take drivers training after this course?
There is no drivers training requirement in Florida, but it’s always a good idea to take behind-the-wheel lessons with a professional driving instructor. Find an approved driving school near you.

Pricing and Payment
10. How much does the course cost? Why are there two price options?
The cost for the online Florida drivers education course is $39.95.

If you are under 18, you can also choose to take the DHSMV learners permit test online (rather than in person) for an extra $10 which makes the total cost of the course and exam $49.95. For many, it’s a much more convenient option.
11. What’s included in the course fee?
The $39.95 course fee covers your online Florida TLSAE course and a free electronic report (Certificate of Completion) sent to the DHSMV once you complete the course. Plus, you’ll get 50 free practice learners permit tests to help you prepare for your written learners permit test!

If you’re under 18, you can choose to take the DHSMV learners permit exam conveniently online for only $10 more (total tuition fee of $49.95) and save time over an in-person test.

Whichever option you choose, once you complete the course, you get unlimited access to the course material—that means you can review the course for as long as you need!
