Driving or riding in cars can seem like the most trivial, mundane thing—after all, it's something most of us do every day. But if you really think about it, driving is a big deal. We're hurling ourselves through time and space in plastic and metal boxes. Weird. And when we're the one driving, our actions control the life or death of our passengers and other people on the road. When you consider that car crashes are the leading cause of death for 15-20 year olds, suddenly, driving becomes a huge deal.
Of course it's easy to forget about all this when you're rocking out with a carload of friends on the way to the beach, so it's best to build good habits from the get-go. Last month, we exhibited at iNACOL's Virtual School Symposium. The annual conference brought together over 1,700 representatives from national, state, district, private and other virtual school programs to attend the industry's leading event in K-12 online learning. High-level practitioners and policymakers were present seeking cutting edge practices for developing e-learning programs within educational institutions.
DriversEd.com is actively engaged with a number of distance learning programs including partnerships with Florida Virtual School and Texas Virtual School, the two largest and most successful state-wide Virtual Schools in the country.
The third annual National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW) was a big success! NTDSW is solely dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to unnecessary teen deaths on the road. Established by the Congress in 2007, NTDSW is held annually on the third week of October each year, its goal is to educate adults and teens and get parents and schools administrations involved to encourage and focus on teen driver safety throughout the year.
We're partnering with Zest Books author Erika Stalder to raise awareness of teen driving safety. As a featured DriversEd,com guest columnist, Stalder is providing monthly columns relating to teen driving and safety.
